There are five layers to Earth's atmosphere:troposphere, STRA TOSPHERE, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere.
There are five layers to Earth's atmosphere:troposphere, STRATOSPHERE, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere.
Troposphere
The troposphere is the ground level layer of the atmosphere and it extends 10 miles above the surface of the earth. Weather forms , life occurs, and planes fly in this layer. |
Stratosphere
The stratosphere is the second layer of the atmosphere and is 10 to 30 miles above Earth's surface. This layer contains the ozone that shields the Earth from ultraviolet sun rays. |
Mesosphere
The mesosphere is the third layer away from Earth and it extends 30 to 50 miles. This is the coldest layer, it can drop to -130 degrees Fahrenheit at the upper part of the layer. Space debris also burns up in this layer. |
Thermosphere
The thermosphere is the fourth layer and extends from 50 to 400 miles above Earth's surface. The air is very thin and absorbs a lot of solar radiation letting it reach up to 440 degrees Fahrenheit. |
